Mrs. Fischnar was born March 2, 1892 at Komensky, near Moulton in Lavaca County. One of a family of six children, she was the daughter of Henry and Amelia Gaertner Pohler, natives of Germany and Austria respectively. She was married to Arthur Fishnar March 2, 1913. Shortly after their marriage the couple came to Shiner to make their home. In August 1926, after the death of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Hugo Pohler Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Fischnar and children made their home with Mr. Pohler and two sons, Hugo Jr. and Roy, who, at the time, were 16 months and 3 mounts of age respectively. Mrs. Fischnar mothered and reared her two nephews along with her four children. Here she resided until the time of her death.
Mrs. Fischnar is survived by three sons, Eugene J., John B. and Arthur Fischnar Jr., all of Houston; two nephews, Roy Pohler of Cameron, La. and Hugo Pohler Jr. of Shiner. They, along with their wives showered her with tender care and devoted affection, especially so during her long illness.
She is also survived by five grandchildren; two brothers, Henry Pohler Jr. of Houston and Richard Pohler of Moulton; one sister, Mrs. Gus (Della) Aschenbeck of Houston; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Arthur Fischnar Sr., who died July 3, 1941; and only daughter, Fay Fischnar, died suddenly on July 25, 1944 at the age of 23 years after a brief illness; her mother Mrs. Amelia Pohler, died December 9, 1930; her father, Henry Pohler Sr., died January 13, 1958 and a sister, Mrs. Martha Biehunko died March 21, 1961.
Mrs. Fischnar was a member of the Catholic Attar Society, St. Elizabeth Society and Hermann Sons Lodge.
"Tante Frieda" or "Fisher," as she was affectionately known, devoted her life to her family. She lavished her motherly love on many who entered her life.
In the years to come memories of her unselfish characteristics will aid loved ones and friends along life's way, and her precepts and beliefs will be their guiding stars.
A mantle of exquisite floral offerings made beautiful her last resting place, evidence of the esteem in which she was held.
"She's gone to worlds above, where saints and angels meet, to realize our Savior's love and worship at His feet.
