Shiner lost an honored and respected citizen Tuesday night of last week, November 30, 1926, when Mr. John Fischnar passed away after several of sufferings. He was 71 years, 5 months and 15 days old. Mr. Fischnar was born at Hagelstein, Moravia, Europe, June 15, 1855. He came to America at the age of 19 years, making his home in Austin County for 22 years. He came to Shiner as a retired farmer some eight years ago. Surviving him is his wife, nee Veronocka Baros, five daughters and two sons as follows; Mrs. Charles Vackar of Gonzales; Mrs. R. E. Mittanck and Mrs J. W. Spradley of San Benito and Mrs. E. J. Pohler, Miss Agnes Fischnar and Arthur and Eddie Fischnar of Shiner, and ten grandchildren.
The funeral was held at 9:30 a.m., Thursday morning, December 2, at the Catholic Church, with Requien High Mass, Rev. L. P. Natardus was celebrant of the mass, being assisted by Rev. Benes and Rev. Sylpra. He was a member of, St. Joseph's Society, having been their secretary for many years. The entire society attended in a body. All of the children were present, except Mittanck who was too ill to come.
Mr. and Mrs. Fischnar celebrated their Golden Wedding October 26, 1925, with a special mass at the Catholic Church. The large funeral evidenced the high regard and esteem in which the deceased was held and the new made mound was covered with beautiful flowers. The Gazette joins the many friends here and throughout this section in extending heartfelt sympathy.
