On April 2, 1863 and again on August 8, 1863 Nathan is listed as a deserter. Obviously this matter was cleared up as Nathan fought in the Battle of Missionary Ridge November 25, 1863. As the last recruited into Capt Scotts Battery Tennessee He was captured during this battle and sent to Rock Island Civil War Prison in Illinois..
He was scheduled for prisoner exchange to take place on December 5, 1863. This exchange apparently never took place , since he is still shown as prisoner of war at Rock Island on December 8 1863..
