Frank H. Holmes one of the oldest most beloved Confederate Veterans in Morgan County died at the home of his son, John Holmes, on Lacon Route 1, Wednesday morning at six o'clock following a two weeks illness. He was 93 years of age and was one of the best known citizens in this section.
Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon at Union Hill, at 2:00 o'clock by Rev. Green Parker and interment will follow in the Union Hill Cemetery with Peck directing.
Mr. Holmes is survived by two daughters Mrs. Edgar (Addie) woods, of Falkville, Route 1, Mrs Montgomery (Minnie) Oden, of Vinemont; eight sons, John Milton of Lacon Route 1, James Thomas of Falkville Route 1, Reuben Marshall of Eva, Thadis Z. of Falkville Route 1, Franklin S. and Wilburn B. of Hartselle Route 3, Houston of Recklaw, Texas and 52 grandchildren.
Frank is laid next to his wife, Darthular in the Union Hill Cemetery. In 1996 Timothy D. Holmes (Great GreatGrandson) applied to the Veterans Administration and had a Confederate Veterans marker placed at the foot of Frank's grave.
