Elise attended Flora McDonald College in Red Springs, NC, majoring in home economics. She taught school in Cabarrus County for two years, marrying Charles E. Boger, the Superintendent of Schools, on Christmas Day 1913. They were the parents of five children, three sons and two daughters.

She devoted herself to her family and homemaking. Her love of flowers was especially notable -- to the last years of her life she remained an active landscaper whose garden had something in bloom at every season of the year. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Concord and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
