Clarence Alfred Smith Sr. age 81 of the Snipesville community, passed away Sunday night July 15, 1984 at Talmadge Memorial Hospital in Augusta after a short illness of lung cancer. He was the son of Joshua Friar and Emily Emma Kinchen Smith.

Mr. Smith was a native of Jeff Davis County. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church where he was a deacon and Sunday School teacher of the Men's Sunday School Class for 25 years. He was a retired farmer and at one time operated Smith's Grocery Store in Snipesville.

Survivors include:
His wife, Ruby Johnson Smith.
One son, Alfred & Jenny Smith of Denton Ga..
Five daughters:
Clarice & L.N. Johnson of Alma, Ga.
Pat & Frank Wright of Hazlehurst, Ga.
Faye & James Sinclair of Douglas Ga.
Emily & Buddy Hutto of Denton Ga.
Rhonda & William Dunn of Waynesboro Ga.
One sister, Maggie Lee Cox of Jacksonville Fla.
One brother, Arnold A. Smith of Denton Ga.
16 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday July 7 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Jasper Hill snd Rev. Donnie Kirkland officiating. The interment followed in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers were: Waymon Ricketson, Edward Dyal, Reggie Kirkland, Clyde Wooten, Asel Rish and Tommy Beasley.
Honorary pallbearers were: Bill Powell, Jimmy Lamb, Curtis Spires, Clifford Walker, James Tate, Billy Girtman, Buddy Snipes, Jerry Wooten, Larry Smith, Joel Carver, Milton Fletcher, Sam Wooten, S.G. Austin, Homer Austin and Gene Tate.

Wainwright-Parlor Funeral home was in charge of the arrangements.
