Mrs. Minerva Barksdale was born on March 10, 1920, to the late Mrs. Lena Hopkins and Mr. Henry Winters.
She attended school in Attala County, MS. She was a devoted mother and homemaker. She grew up in the Zama Community and at an early age, she united with Mt. Mariah M. B. Church. She later moved to Ethel, MS; and united with Plantation M. B. Church, where she was a member until her health failed.
She departed this life on March 12, 1999, at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, one son, and three brothers.
She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Ruby Doris Haynes, Ruby Mae Barksdale, and Pearlie Barksdale, all of Ethel, MS; three sons, Joe Winters of Kosciusko, MS; Ardell Barksdale (Mary) of Vardaman, MS; and Billy Ray Barksdale of Ethel, MS; four sisters, Lena Pearl Merritt (Clarence) of Ethel, MS; Georgia Mae Cleveland of Milwaukee, WI; Hattie Mae Ashford of Isola, MS; and Bernice Kimbrough of Kosciusko, MS; two brothers, James Willie Gregory (Betty), and Lewis Gregory both of Milwaukee, WI; twenty-four grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
