A native of Virginia, she has been a resident of Louisiana for 35 years, and in 1985, settled in the small River Road community called Plaquemine Point near Sunshine.
She was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church for 22 years.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Leon Staples, and five children. They are Laurie Hickman and husband, Jerry, of North Carolina, Kim Morgan and husband, Bart, of Sunshine, Julie Mascarella and husband, Mike, of Sunshine, Leigh Anne Farrar and husband, Kevin, of Ohio and David Staples and wife, Debbie, of Sunshine; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Coffman of Bridgewater; and sister-in-law, Barbara Wright of Verona, Va.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ruth Wright; brother, Charles Wright Jr.; and infant great-granddaughter, Alyssa Marie Neubauer.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Rabenhorst East, 825 Government St., Baton Rouge. Visitation also will be conducted from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, May 20, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m.
