ARANT RITES SCHEDULED FOR TODAY
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Lena Stringer Arant, 53, will be held this afternoon at 3 pm at the First Baptist Church here, with Dr. Ray Rust officiating. Interment will be in Christ Church Cemetery, under the direction of First National Funeral Home.

Mrs. Arant was killed yesterday morning in a two-vehicle collision two miles south of the Sterlington intersection on U. S. Highway 165. Occupants of the other vehicle involved in the wreck were Mr. & Mrs. Clarence B. Sawyer of Riverside, California, who informed investigating police they have been staying in Bastop. The Sawyers were given medical treatment and released. Mrs. Arant died after being rushed to St. Francis Hospital by ambulance.

According to State Police, the incident occured when the Sawyer's pickup truck left the road to avoid hitting a truck in front of it, skidded on the wet road shoulder, and went out of control and slammed into the northbound Arant vehicle.

Mrs. Arant was a former employee of the Bastrop Daily Enterprise, and was employed as proofreader for the Monroe Morning World at the time of her death.
