Mary Erma Telford, who went by Erma, was an aunt of my mother. She grew up in Salem Illinois with five brothers and a sister. She never married, and her working career was as a clerk for the railroad in Villa Grove, Illinois. In the 1970s she went to San Francisco to live in a hotel with her sister Ula, who also had never married. When Ula died, Aunt Erma returned to Salem for her final years. She was a quilter and made beautiful appliqued quilts for her nieces.
