She died when I was eight, but I have very clear memories of an extraordinarily sweet and loving lady. Her hands were wracked with arthritis, yet I remember them stroking the hair on my head. It was her death that I recall was my first experience with losing someone I loved.

It is not an understatement to say that her children and grandchildren all thought that Ma hung the moon!

MRS SHERROD FUNERAL SLATED IN SWAINSBORO

Funeral services for Mrs. Rachel Moody Sherrod of Swainsboro, Ga., mother of two Jacksonville residents will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in the Hunnicutt Funeral Home in Swainsboro. Burial will be in the Swainsboro City Cemetery. A Native of Emanuel County, Ga., Mrs. Sherrod, 87, died Wednesday in a Swainsboro hospital after a long illness. She was the mother of Mrs. Cleo Eidson, and R. Hugh Sherrod, and the sister of Mrs. Lena Andrews, all of Jacksonville. Other survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Pauline Hall of Swainsboro, and Mrs. Vera Sperlanes of St. augustine Beach; a son, Garland O. Sherrod of Waycross, Ga., a sister. Mrs. Annie Rogers of Swainsboro; 14 grandchildren, 30 grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren.
