EDWIN O. JOHNSON
Edwin O. Johnson, son of Andrew and Mathilda Johnson was born April 21, 1885 in Page County, near Page Center. At the age of nine years the family moved to Tarkio Township, where he attended rural school. He furthered his education and attended the Western Normal College in Shenandoah, Page County, Iowa.
On March 12, 1919, Edwin was united in marriage to Carrie Burg at the Essex Covenant Parsonage. They made their home in Tarkio Township, where they farmed until retiring into the town of Essex, Page County, Iowa in September of 1967.
Edwin became a member of the Fremont Covenant Church, January 5, 1937. He attended and supported his church faithfully.
He is survived by his wife, Carrie, one sister, Mrs. Caleb Freed of Essex; one foster sister, Mrs. Ivan Swanson of Red Oak, Montgomery County, Iowa, seven nieces and nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Henry Johnson.
He passed away at 7 AM, December 8, 1968, at his home following an extended illness of six months.
Funeral services were held December 12, 1968, at 2:00 PM from the Fremont Covenant Church, the pastor, Rev. William Fredrickson, officiating. Information found in The Essex Independent, December 19, 1968.
