MRS. JOHNSON DIED FRIDAY
Following an illness of short duration, Mrs. Andrew E. Johnson passed away very quietly at her home in Essex, Iowa, last Friday morning.
Mathilda Johnson, nee Anderson, was born on February 11th, 1859, at Stave, Odeshog, Ostergottland, Sweden. Her spirit winged it's way into Higher Realm on March 2nd, 1933. She was at the time of her leaving, 74 years, and 20 days old.
Mrs. Johnson arrived from the land of her birth to Essex, Iowa, in the year of 1882, and was united in marriage to Mr. Andrew E. Johnson on February 27th, 1884. To that union were born three children, all living.
The Johnson's first settled in Harlan Township of Page County. After ten years of residence there, they moved to Tarkio Township of the above county, which became their home during the next twenty-six years. After which Mr. and Mrs. Johnson retired from the occupation of farming and took up their residence in Essex, Iowa, which place henceforth became their home until the time of Mrs. Johnson's departure.
To deeply mourn a faithful wife and loving mother are left the husband, Mr. Andrew E. Johnson, and the three children, Edwin and Henry of Essex, Iowa, and Mrs. Caleb Freed of Clarinda, Iowa, one foster daughter, Mrs. Ivan Swanson of Red Oak, Iowa, and five grandchildren, one sister and one brother, both residing in Sweden. Numerous relatives and many friends.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Essex Mission Church, and also of the Ladies Aid within that church. Always, while in good health, taking a keen interest in the welfare of her church, and was a faithful attendant at the services and other activities within the church.
The last rites were held last Sunday afternoon, at the home and from the Essex Mission Church, Rev. H. Hultman, officiating. Interment was in the Essex Cemetery, Essex, Page County, Iowa.
W. O. Carson, Essex mortician was in charge of arrangements.
