William Elzie Cloninger, Sr. was born 9 Jan 1893 in Grainger County and died at the age of 57 of "Chronic Myocarditis-Silicosis of the lungs- pneumonia"
on 1 October 1950 at Fort Sanders Hospital Knoxville.

Silicosis, also known as Potter's rot, is a form of occupational lung disease caused by inhalation of crystalline silica dust.

He lived at Rt. 1 Straw Plains and was a miner at a zinc mine. Informant, Mrs. W.E. Cloninger, lists his parents as Adam Cloninger and Millie Hayes.

He was buried at Paw Paw Hollow Cemetery in Sevierville by Rawlings-Miller Mortuary (Death Certificate #50-22490) Knox County marriages show William E. Cloninger 21, married Climmie Snyder 20, on 21 December 1911.
