Age 66 cause of death heart trouble

After the Civil War, ex-slaveholder, physician, newspaper publisher and businessman Joseph Riley Smith divided up his corn and cotton fields into residential lots to develop Smithfield, now a neighborhood of Birmingham. He named the streets after his children, including Thomas.
