Daughter of John and Mary Daugherty Plunk.

Her first marriage was to George Pearce on May 15, 1898 in Smith County, Texas. Family stories have it that when she was 8 months pregnant with their first child they walked from East Texas to Arkansas and that Jessie weighed barely 5 pounds when born. George died in 1913. After his death she married Wiley Armstrong about 1921.

In 1900, she and George lived in White Township, Polk Co., AR, White Township. She was 17 and had already been married two years. By 1910 they had moved to Tate Township, Scott Co., AR, and by 1920 she was a widow with 6 children living in Smith County, Texas.

She and Wiley had two daughters, Wilma and Alea Edith, better known as "Baby D". In 1930, she and Wiley lived in Wood Co., TX. In 1936 the girls went swimming in the stock tank on the York place where they lived and drowned together. By the way the girls were found it is believed that Baby D caught her foot on something on the bottom and could not get free and that Wilma drowned trying to get her out.

"Rosey" as she was known helped raise a number of her grandchildren. The last two to receive her tender loving care were Johnnie and Pauline's 2 youngest, Brenda and Sharon or "Sherry". Johnnie took them to his mother after Pauline died in 1950. She was about 69 when she took these two. They lived with her for 3 years straight and then off and on until grown. Sherry was the last to leave Rosey's home.

Gravesite Details

I visited Granny's grave site today (8/2/2018) to discover that the grave stones for her, Grandpa "Yancy", and the joint stone for Wilma and Alea (Baby D) are all 3 missing. Odd that only these 3 in a long row of stones are gone.
