He was born June 11, 1932 in White River Jct., VT, a son of Henry B. and Charlotte (Elliott) Leavitt. He attended the Hartford schools and in 1953 he joined the Army where he served in Arlington, VA in the Honor Guard. In 1959 he became a Hartford Police Officer he served on the force for 5 years before Joining the Hanover Police Department in 1964. He served as an officer until retiring in 1984, during his retirement he worked for several years as the parking supervisor and as a crossing guard for the town of Hanover until he grew to ill to work. He was married to Judith K Osborne November 3, 1956 in Springfield, VT
He was an avid fisherman and deer hunter.
He is predeceased by a sister Janet Ford
He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years Judith K. Leavitt of Wilder; a son Steven Leavitt of White River Jct.; a daughter, Beathanie Clausen of Valparaiso, IN; two brothers Bill Leavitt of Burlington, VT and Edwin Leavitt of White River Jct.; three sisters Jean Leavitt of Lowell, MA, June Gunzinger of Florida, and Rachael Darah of White River Jct., VT and six grandchildren
A memorial service will be held Friday, April 30, 2010 at 11 AM at the West Lebanon Congregational Church in West Lebanon, NH Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. has been entrusted with arrangements.
