Josephine Ruel was born and baptized on 8 Sep 1879 in Sainte Claire, Dorchester, Québec, Canada. She immigrated with her family to Somersworth, Strafford, New Hampshire about 1893. Josephine married diplomat Wilfrid Jenkins in Guatemala in 1906. They had 2 children, a daughter born in Guatemala and a son born in Somersworth. Her husband Major Wilfrid Jenkins died in London, England in 1918. Josephine subsequently resided in Somersworth, New Hampshire; London, England; Chester, Pennsylvania; and Sanford, Maine. She was "Tante Phine" in Virginia Haggard's 1986 "My Life With Chagall". She moved to Portland, Maine by 1948, where her children resided. Josephine died on her 84th birthday. She was buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where the majority of my French Canadian ancestors (who died in New Hampshire or Maine) are interred.

Sources include census records, the Drouin Collection, passenger lists, the Portland Press Herald, the Maine Death Index, the Social Security Death Index, Josephine's headstone, and my family copy of the 1942 Généalogie de la Famille Goulet-Ruel.
