HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Newt Abner, 81, of Sparta, Michigan will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at New Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Tipton officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Abner died Saturday, January 17, 1998, in Sparta. He was born April 16, 1916, in Tennessee to George and Katie Abner. He was a fruit farmer and a member of the Church of God.
He is survived by his wife, Nadine Abner: two sons, Newt Abner Jr. of Ohio and Jimmie Abner of Sparta; two daughters, Patsy Abner of Tennessee and Macie Storey of Georgia; three stepdaughters, Gail Tipton of Florida and Judy Barnett and Vickie Gogocha, both of Michigan; two sisters, Marie Stone and Florence Nelson, both of Moulton; grandchildren; step-grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jimmie Abner, Mike Gogocha, Travis Johnson, Cleveland Junior LouAllen, George Pompura and Al Trumbell.
