Wesley J. Vander Weele, 84, of Sheboygan, went home to be with his Lord, comforted by his family, on Sunday, April 11, 2010.
Wes was born March 20, 1926 in Kohler to John and Lena (Gabrielse) Vander Weele.
He attended Sheboygan Christian School before graduating from Sheboygan Central High School Class of 1944. He furthered his education at Northwestern Trust School in Evanston, Illinois.
During W.W. II, Wes served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed in Burma as a cryptographic technician.
On May 23, 1947 Wes was united in marriage to Charlotte Wondergem at First Christian Reformed Church.
Wes was a trust officer at the former Citizens Bank in Sheboygan for 44 years until his retirement in May of 1990.
Mr. Vander Weele was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Sheboygan where he served as Elder, Deacon, on the finance committee member, and radio board. He witnessed his faith as nursing home speaker and as a leader with the Friendship Club. He was also a member of the Golden Agers and Sheboygan Pigeon Club. Wes enjoyed raising, showing and racing pigeons. His birds were winners at several pigeon shows over the years. In their retirement years, Wes and Charlotte traveled the United States and especially enjoyed trips to the Crystal Cathedral. Many happy family times were spent at a cottage on Lake Metonga near Crandon, WI.
In addition to his wife, Charlotte, Wes is survived by four children, Sandra (Michael) Hotz of Sheboygan and their children, Julie (David) Reichle, Tina (Allen) Duwell; Phyllis (Ronald) Meengs of Dorr, Michigan and their children, Dawn (Marc) Vander Maas, Brian (Beth) Meengs, and Tammi Meengs; Philip (Susie) Vander Weele of Sheboygan and their children, Tifany (David) Frazer, Brian Plass, and Michelle (Matt) Quasius; and Jennifer (Lowell) Jensema of Gibbsville and their children, Jerrod (Angela) Jensema, and Jason (friend, Beth Fichtner) and Joshua; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gertrude Gabrielse and LaVerne (Richard) Nyenhuis; two sisters-in-law, Beatrice Vander Weele and Vivian Vander Weele; and other family members and friends including, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Roger and LaVerne Wilke and Ken and Edith Wondergem.
Wes was preceded in death by three brothers, Lester, John and Howard; and a sister, Margaret Eggebeen Otte.
A memorial service will be held Thursday,at First Christian Reformed Church in Sheboygan. Rev. Willie Gesch, will officiate. Burial will precede the service in Wildwood Cemetery.
