Gertrude J. Gabrielse, 98, of Oostburg, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls. Gertrude was born on July 14, 1917, in Sheboygan, daughter of John and Lena (Gabrielse) Vander Weele. She attended Sheboygan Christian School. On November 29, 1935, she married Leonard W. Gabrielse in Sheboygan. Leonard passed away on February 12, 1989.Gertrude was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg, were she was active in the Eunice Society and the Martha Society. She also was a member of the Town of Wilson Homemakers and volunteered for the Oostburg Christian School Circle. Gertrude enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, doing crafts and crocheting. Gertrude was a wonderful wife, mom, grandma and friend who always put others before herself and dedicated her time and talents of cooking and baking. Gertrude was a devoted and loving caretaker for her husband for 23 years after his accident.Gertrude is survived by her two daughters, Shirley Hoffman of Howards Grove and Barbara (John) Sterk of Byron Center, Michigan; her two sons, Leonard (Jan) Gabrielse of Bradenton, Florida and Randall (Barbara) Gabrielse of Oostburg; her daughter-in-law, Sue (Lee) Glomski of Sheboygan Falls; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Laverne Nyenhuis of Oostburg; two sisters-in-law, Beatrice Vander Weele of Sheboygan and Betty Kalk of Sheboygan Falls. Gertrude is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband Leonard of 53 years; her son, James Gabrielse; grandson, Robert Sterk; one son-in-law, Warren Hoffman; one sister, Margaret (Andrew) Eggebeen-Otte; four brothers, John (Vivian), Lester, Wesley (Char) and Howard VanderWeele; one sister-in-law, Virginia VanderWeele; three brothers-in-law, John Eggebeen, Glenn Soerens and Rich Nyenhuis.Funeral services to celebrate Gertrude's life will be held at 11am on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg with Rev. Drew Zylstra officiating. Burial will be at Oostburg Cemetery in the Town of Holland.
