Daughter of John & Elizabeth (Dixon) Francis, wife of Thomas Stephenson, m. Jun 2, 1886. Buried Jan 13, 1924.

After an illness of only a few days, Mrs. Rosa Stephenson, a lifelong resident of Wyoming, passed away at her home on North Galena Avenue last Thursday morning, aged nearly fifty-six years. Death was due to pneumonia, and, coming as it did, with little warning, proved a severe shock to her relatives and friends. She had a large circle of friends, among whom her untimely death has been the cause of deep and sincere regret.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at two o’clock, at the Congregational Church. The services were in charge of Rev. O.G. Ekstrom, pastor of the Wyoming Methodist Church, who was assisted by Rev. R.M. Burgess, and the Eastern Star Order, of which the deceased had long been a member, gave its impressive funeral service at the church. Music was by a quartet composed of Mrs. Dean Winn, Mrs. Florence Colgan, Geo. F. Garden and R.D. Rakestraw, with Miss Edith Walters at the organ. They sang “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” and “Rock of Ages.” Mrs. Winn sang “Face to Face” as a solo. The church was filled with sorrowing friends and relatives, and the casket and altar were covered with beautiful floral tributes. Pallbearers were: W.H. Fauth, Frank Kromphardt, John P. Sanner, H.E. Rakestraw, Gerry D. Scott and Geo. F. Earhart. Interment was in Wyoming Cemetery.
The following obituary was read at the church by Rev. R.M. Burgess:
Rosa May Francis was born to John and Elizabeth Francis at the Francis homestead in the north part of Wyoming, on January 19, 1868, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Thursday, Jan. 10, 1924. Had she lived until next Saturday, she would have reached her 56 the year. She was the youngest child of a large family of ten children.
Her education was received in the North Side Public School. On March 2, 1886, she was united in marriage to Thomas Stephenson of this city. To this union was born one daughter, Edna Stephenson Bonynge, who remains to mourn her mother’s untimely death. Mr. Stephenson departed from this life June 19, 1913.
Mrs. Stephenson was a charter member of the AIU, serving commendably as its first treasurer. She was a faithful member of the Order of the Eastern Star. About twenty-five years ago she chose the heavenly Father for her guide and united with the Methodist Church.
Mrs. Stephenson naturally possessed a cheery and friendly disposition and her circle of friends was very large. She was always ready and willing to aid those in need of help.
Besides the daughter she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Hamilton of Wyoming, and Mrs. Lewis Bensyl of Danville; a brother, Thurman H. Francis of Wyoming; several nieces and nephews and by a great many friends.
