Armin P. Grosssell

Fountain City, Wis. (Sepcial)-Funeral services for Armin P. Grossell, 61, Rock Island, Ill., a former resident of Fountain City who died March 6 at his home after an illness of six months, were held at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rock Island. The Rev. George J. Schroeder officiated. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.

Born here Jan. 10, 1899, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Grossell. He was raised and received his education here.

He married Viola E. Gilbertz in April 1923 at Guttenberg, Iowa. In 1939 they moved to Rock Island where he was a member of St. Mary's Church and its Holy Name Society.

He served as superintendent of the Hennepin Canal for the Rock Island District of the U.S. Engineers for 30 years, was a former president of the Credit Union at the Clock Tower, headquarters of the Rock Island District, and also was a member of the National Federation of Federal Employes.

Survivers are: His wife, a son, Armin J. Grossell, Rock Island; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Marilyn) Merchie, Rock Island, and Mrs. Phil (Virginia) Dhondt, East Moline, Ill.; a brother, Robert V. Grossell, Fountain City; three sisters, Mrs. Alfred (Mary) Abts, Fountain City; Mrs. George (Leona) Hoeppner, Winona, and Mrs. John (Tillie) Hoeppner, Eau Claire, Wis., and 10 grandchildren. A brother Franklin, an infant sister and a grandchild have died.
