Marilyn Grossell was born September 30, 1929 in Guttenberg, IA, the daughter of Armin P. and Viola E. (Gilbertz) Grossell. She married Robert L. Merchie on Feb. 23, 1952 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island. Marilyn graduated from St. Joseph High School, Rock Island and Marycrest College, Davenport, IA. She completed a dietetic internship with the St. Louis University Graduate School. She owned LaMar Catering Service for 20 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and its Altar Society and the Marycrest Alumni Association. She loved traveling with her husband, playing cards and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include her husband, Robert L.; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Scott DeSmet, Rock Island; sons and daughters-in-law, James Merchie, Stockton, IA, Thomas and Lori Merchie, Milan, IL, Robert M. and Connie Merchie, Rock Island; 11 grandchildren, Michael, Katherine, Rose and Steven Merchie, Kelly Merchie, Alissa Merchie, Nicole, Ashley, Shane, Colton and Austin DeSmet; a sister, Virginia Dhondt, East Moline, IL; sister-in-law, Dolores Grossell, Milan; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Suzanne and Ron Ketner, Silvis, IL.
