Joseph Lorentz was born on September 25, 1886 in Hudson Township, Charlevoix County, Michigan- the son of Anthony and Mary A. Braun Lorentz. During World War I he "served in the World Service at Camp Custer. After the war he worked for the reailroad for many years. On September 17, 1926 he died in Petoskey, Emmet County, Michigan and is buried in North Bay Cemetery in Bay Township, Charlevoix County, Michigan. Joseph never married and had no children. At the time of his burial no tombstone was erected. However, in 2004 the surviving descendents of Anthony and Mary Braun Lorentz erected a family headstone to honor Joseph, his parents, his brother William, and William's wife, Myrtie.

JOSEPH LORENTZ DIES ON FRIDAY OF APPENDICITIS

Joseph Lorentz, of Petoskey, who was employed as a section hand on the Pennsylvania railroad, passed away Friday from appendicitis. He was born in Horton's Bay on September 6, 1886.

Surviving him are four brothers, Stephen and William, of Elmira; Albert Lorentz of Afton, and Nicholas of Grand Rapids; besides four sisters, Mrs. Barbara Burns and Mrs. Elizabeth Pierce of Topinabee; Mrs. Agnes Welch, Saugatuck, and Mrs. Eva Richie of Flint.

The funeral services will be held Sunday at the Stone undertaking parlors, with Reverend Mr. Baines in charge. Burial will be made at North Bay.

Mr. Lorentz was in the World service in Camp Custer from September until February.
