Bio

I am a native of Boyne City, Michigan who currently resides just north of Petoskey, Michigan. I have actively researched my own family and its collateral lines for more than 30 years. In addition, I have also conducted paid research for those with ties to both Charlevoix and Emmet Counties. My involvement in both the Charlevoix County Genealogical Society and the Charlevoix County History Preservation Society has resulted in my maintaining a very large database of local history and genealogy- focusing on the early events and families of Charlevoix County.

Over the years I have relied heavily on sites such as Find-A-Grave to locate the final resting places of ancestors and others who have lived and died in more distant cities, states and countries. I can never adequately thank all of those dedicated volunteers who have logged in the countless thousands of names and tombstone images that they have access to within the regions that they live and research in. If each of us would make an effort to devote just a little time to this effort each year, what a remarkable resource this would be for both historians and genealogists.

My meager attempts at creating and maintaining profiles/memorials have been limited to my own relatives, ancestors and collateral line connections. I hope that the information that I have researched and provided will prove helpful to others with an interest in these same individuals and surnames. If you find that you have an ancestral connection to any of the folks whose memorial pages I maintain, please don't hesitate to get in touch. I am always happy to share and exchange information with other family members.

Recently I have also begun to add a few "non-family" memorial pages for unrelated individuals. After many years of researching here in Michigan's Charlevoix and Emmet Counties, I have gleaned a great many obituaries and other items, which I have relied on for Genealogical Society newsletters and for use in local history articles and publications. Rather than have them gathering dust in my files, I have started to scan and add them here as time permits. While I will NOT transfer any Find-A-Grave memorials with a family connection, I would be happy to transfer these "non-family" memorials- IF the requester has a family connection and is interested in updating, linking and adding to the original memorial page.

Maple Hill Cemetery Obituary Project
Elmira, Antrim County, Michigan

Many thanks for all of the kind words. My ancestors were early settlers within this community, so the individuals buried there were names that I grew up hearing about. While in most cases I have no further details than what I have already posted, I am happy that my obituary postings have assisted so many of you in locating family members and family connections.

The First Presbyterian Church, Boyne City, Charlevoix County, Michigan
Virtual Cemetery Project

The purpose of this project is to document and detail the lives of the former ministers of the First Presbyterian Church in Boyne City, Michigan. This project will encompass both the early church, located on the corner of Park and Ray Streets, and the present day church, located on the corner of Park and Pine Streets. It is my hope to eventually "link" all of these pastors and their spouses- creating an easy, on-line reference tool to explore this aspect of the history of Boyne City, Charlevoix County, Michigan.

BAY TOWNSHIP VETERANS REMEMBERED
BAY TOWNSHIP, CHARLEVOIX COUNTY, MICHIGAN

The purpose of this project is to document and detail the lives of the US veterans who are interred in Bay Township, Charlevoix County, Michigan. In the fall of 2014, Bay Township Board member, Georganna Monk, concerned that the many veterans interred within Bay Township’s three cemeteries might be overlooked in the nationally acclaimed Wreaths Across America (WAA) project, embarked on a mission to have each and every Bay Township veteran included and honored in this national tribute. Assisted by local veteran’s organizations, local historians, and the support of fellow board members and local residents, a preliminary list of veterans was soon established. Since that time, more names have been added to this compilation- the results of which will eventually be contained within a tribute booklet.

VIRTUAL CEMETERY PROJECT

To assist with the above outlined goal, the Bay Township Veterans Virtual Cemetery was created as a means of easy reference. Similar to the mission of the WAA project, it is our hope that these links will help others to recognize the contributions of these veterans and “to Remember, Honor and Teach.” We welcome your support and involvement with this noteworthy cause!!
