Lydia and her husband, John Ragalyi, Sr., were married in 1901. They were married approximately 58 years and together they had 7 children (6 sons and a daughter.) All their sons served proudly and honorably in the United States Army and in the Air Force.

The few references I have found to the Himódi family place them in western Hungary, specifically Ujmalomsok and Felpécz in Gyõr megye. Lidi Himódi immigrated through Baltimore on May 19, 1900, from Felpécz to her parents in Stoneagle, WV. During that period of time Stoneagle could still have been a part of VA. Her mother, Sofia (nee Förhécz), was born about 1862, and her brother, Mihaly Himódi (born about 1892), immigrated to the United States, arriving at the Port of New York on November 29, 1899 to Sofia's husband Mike Himódi in Stoneagle. Sofia was from Ujmalomsok.

On Wednesday, September 14, 1938 Lydia filed her petition in federal district court at Charleston, WV to become a citizen giving her birth location as Uj Malolsok, Hungary. On December 13, 1939 she was sworn in with 21 others and became a proud American citizen.

Himódi appears to be a very rare name in Hungary today. I found only two in the phone directory, one in Budapest and another in Győr. The ancestral town of Himod is even farther west, in Sopron megye.

Förhécz is found much more frequently, many of them in Győr and Pápa.

The 1910 Census entry for Lidi and John show them living in Lipps, Wise County, Virginia. Their children are named as: Bale, age 8 (probably should be Bill), Louis, age 6, and Vilmer (female, 1 month.) Unfortunately their years of immigration are not given, but the record states they have been married for 8 years. Her surname was spelled as 'Himódi' on immigration records. It's unknown when or why the spelling changed to 'Himody'.

Lydia and John are my Paternal grandparents. Over the years I've become the family historian so I'm always searching for more information about relatives in HUNGARY; Szendro County, Borsnegy County, the Village of Ragaly, Boldva, or other areas.

The Flowers of the Future are planted from the Seeds of the Past.
