Joseph Alexander Rives, Sr. was the son of Alexander Robert and Virginia Adeline Hobbs Rives of Chesterfield Co., VA. He was married to Roberta Condrey Rash and father of Joseph Alexander Rives, Jr., James Edward, Lillian Pearl, Caldonia Condrey, and Erma Gaynelle Rives. Joseph, his wife and son are buried at the back of Ettrick Cemetery (not in RIVES SQUARE)which is in the front. It is believed he was killed by a train crossing the tracks.
