Son of Jane (Temple) and George Joseph Rives of Prince George, VA., husband of Virginia Adeline HOBBS Rives, father of Hettie Belle, Caldonia Elizabeth, Harvey Leonard, Alexander, William Thomas, Adeline "Addie", Joseph and George Albert Rives. Following the death of his first wife he married Mary Frances Browder a few years later, no children were of this union and at time of death married to Virginia "Jennie" Ann Cornell. Civil War Veteran Corporal Co F 16th Regt VA Inf CSA. On April 3, 1865 he was taken prisoner and sent to Hart Island prison camp in New York. When he was released on June 20, 1865 he walked all the way back home to Virginia. Family folklore is that he was attacked on his way back by a Union soldier and that he shot back and killed him. He lived out the remainder of his life peacefully in Chesterfield County, VA. In October, 2014 the Southern Cross of Honor brass medallion was presented by and attached to his grave stone by 2nd Great Grandson, Robert E. Vaughan, Jr.
