Joseph Alexander Rives, Jr. was the son of Joseph Alexander Rives, Sr. and Roberta Conrad (Rash) Rives. Siblings were Lillian Pearl, Caldonia C., Erma Gaynelle and James Edward Rives. Following the death of his parents when he was 3, the children were raised by other family of Roberta's. Joseph was raised by his aunt and uncle, John R and Rosa Belle(Cox) MacLaughlin of Matoaca who were originally from Lunenburg Co., Va.(Roberta's family). He died at age 18 of Typhoid Fever and unmarried. He is buried at the back of Ettrick Cemetery by his parents and the McLaughlin parents(not in the RIVES SQUARE at the front).
