Carmelita Frances Bundy, 90, of Harrisonburg, passed away peacefully at her home on December 4, 2014. She was born in Harrisonburg on May 11, 1924, and was the eldest daughter of the late Leo and Julia Hughes Howard. She lived her entire life in Harrisonburg and graduated from Lucy F. Simms. She was a faithful member of John Wesley United Methodist Church where she served as a Trustee, member of the United Methodist Women, and served on the board that was responsible for the building of the new church. Carmelita was also a member of the Shenandoah Chapter No. 108 of the Eastern Star.

On March 12, 1943 she married the love of her life, Weldon “Red” Bundy, who preceded her in death on November 17, 2003.

Carmelita is survived by her only daughter, Doris Reed and her devoted son-in-law, William, of Harrisonburg; two grandchildren, Deanna Reed of Harrisonburg and Joy Webb and her husband, Mario, of Richmond; a great-grandson, Dillan, of Richmond; her devoted sister, Doris Harper Allen of Harrisonburg; her brother, Earnest Howard; a sister-in-law, Judith of South Carolina; a number of nieces and nephews; a godson, Robert Harper, Jr.; and a special family friend, John “Duffy” Smith of Luray.

Funeral services will be held 2 pm, Friday, December 12, 2014 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with Pastor Faith Evans and Reverend Wilma White officiating. Burial will follow in the Newtown Cemetery. The casket will be closed.
