He married Jessie Johnston in 1881 in Logie Pert, Scotland and emigrated to the U S on the ship Ethiopia that left Glasgow, Scotland on April 5, 1894.
He was naturalized on May 10, 1906.
He was preceded in death by son James.
He is survived by his wife and children Hugh Jr, William, Margaret, Bella, Charles, John, and Jessie.
Burial is in Mtn View cemetery.
