Clara Ovidia Solien was born January 10, 1893, on a farm near Syre, Minnesota, the daughter of Carl and Oliane Solien. She was baptized and confirmed in the Wild Rice Lutheran Church by the late Rev. J. R. Vaaler.
Growing up in this vicinity, she attended country schools, graduated from high school in Twin Valley and also graduated from Moorhead State Teacher's College at Moorhead. Clara had never married.
Her whole life has been involved in educational work. She taught in elementary schools at Gary, Fertile, Perley, Hitterdal, Clara City, and the last 29 years at Gaylord, Minnesota. She was awarded a 25 Year Achievement Award in Teaching at a special setting of "This Is Your Life" presentation at the Gaylord Schools. She taught for a total of 42 years.
Although Twin Valley has been her home for most of her life, she has lived here with her sisters for the last 12 years, following her retirement.
Clara Solien passed away at the Ada Municipal Hospital Thursday evening, November 1st, at the age of 80 years.
She is survived by one brother and one sister, Otto Solien and Alma Solien, both living in Twin Valley. There are several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, and her parents.
Funeral services were held in Zion Lutheran Church here on Monday, Nov. 5th, at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. Maurice S. Molvik officiating. Mrs. Charles Olson sang "Abide With Me," and she and Mr. Ellef Erlien sang a duet, "How Great Thou Art." The congregation sang "I Know of a Sleep in Jesus Name." Mrs. Roy Lerud served as church organist.
