She graduated from Ralph Bunche an attended Franklin Cosmetology School in Houston. For 17 years, she worked as a teacher's assisant at Project Head Start in Crockett. On August 1, 1958 she married George Black and had five sons.
She was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, three brothers, Clarence, Val and Marce; and one grandaughter, Atoya.
Survivors include five sons: Edwin, Mark and wife Michelle, George and wife Patricia, Patrick and wife Daphene, and Byron; four sisters: Georgia David, Myrtle Hamilton and husband Charles, Lois Hughes, Erma Blue and husband Bobby; two brothers: George (G.W.) Blake, and Willie DeBerry; 11 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
