Pearl M. Swarthout, 92, of Chariton died Wednesday, Oct. 15 (1991), at Lucas County Health Center in Chariton. Services were held 2 p.m. Thursday at Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton, the Rev. John Bissett officiating. Burial was in Chariton Cemetery.
She was born Nov. 15, 1898, in Albia to Sylvester and Ellen Molesworth Dicks. She married Charles D. Swarthout Oct. 18, 1918, in Albia. He died Oct. 13, 1978.
She graduated from Albia High School. She and her husband owned the Chariton Roller Rink for 25 years. She was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge and the Methodist Church in Albia. She had been a resident of the Chariton Manor for a year and a half. She is survived by a son, Lowell of Chariton; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Memorials may be made to the Chariton Manor or the Chariton Public Library.
