Family research indicates that Joseph Vernon Dicks was married twice: first, to Blanche Elizabeth (Tusing) at the home of his parents, in Monroe County, Iowa; they were blessed with three daughters: Myrtle, Ellen, and Mable.
Joseph's second marriage was to Bessie Jane (Collis)on May 6, 1930, in Schuyler, Missouri. This marriage was blessed with a daughter, Josephine, and a son, Joseph Junior Dicks.

Joseph Dicks lived most of his early life in Iowa, but lived also for a time in Missouri and then Texas. He was occupied in various jobs - a gardener, machinist in car repair shop, operated a skating rink, worked in a cafe, doing what he could to make a living for his family.

Some records list his birth year as 1890 but cemetery stone says 1889. His death certificate gives his birth date as April 7, 1889; death date February 23, 1973. Cause of death was congestive failure and bronchial pneumonia with other factors related to pulmonary functions. Informant of his death was his wife, Bessie.
