Funeral services were held for Paul Douglas "Doug" Ballard, 49, of Minden, Louisiana, at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Ringgold, Louisiana. Burial followed at Providence Cemetery in Ringgold, with services under the direction of Rockett Funeral Home of Ringgold.
Pallbearers were members of Bienville Parish Ward 4 & 5 Volunteer Firefighters, Lanny McWilliams, Roy Conly, Bobby Conly, Adrian Batchlor, Eddy Defreese, and Alonzo Alford.
Doug was born on July 11, 1960 and passed away suddenly while working in Mansfield on March 10, 2010 when the Lord called home one of his own. He was an employee of Shreveport Communications for many years and was the director of the TV and sound ministry at First Baptist Church, Ringgold. Doug was a voluntary fireman in Bienville Parish Wards 4 & 5 for thirteen years where he served as captain, district chief, and communications officer.
He is now reunited with his parents Aubrey and Vera Ballard and brothers, Donald and David Ballard.
Those left to cherish the time they had with Doug are his wife of seventeen years, Terry Ballard; his granddaughter, Paige Sullivan, who he cared for as a daughter; his two stepsons that he has taken care of since their father's death, Cody Sullivan and his wife Lori and Clay Sullivan and his wife Meredith; his granddaughter Emily Sullivan; father and mother-in-law, Jimmy and Meeda Harrison; brothers and sisters, James Ballard, Bobby Ballard, Margaret Whatley and Deborah McCain; and many other family members and close friends who loved and depended on him.
Doug lost his mother which he adored with all his heart on March 10, 1990. Later he met and married his loving wife Terry and then along came the light of his life, Paige. Doug's generosity and desire to help others lives on through his final gift of organ donation. From all of us who loved and depended on Doug, we ask for your prayers as we adjust to life without him.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association, 2302 W. 1st, Cedar Falls, IA 50613.
