James M. Pierce and 3rd wife are on the 1880 US Federal Census for Copiah County, Mississippi. However by1900 his 3rd wife and step son moved to Texas. Unknown death date.

James Mitchell Pierce was the eighth and youngest child of Randall Pierce and his wife Mary Nancy Whatley of North Carolina. He was born while the family lived in Franklin County Georgia in 1812.

The family moved to central Mississippi. Little Bahala was just off the main route from Georgia, known to Natchez as the "Three Chopped Way." Some records refer to it as the Federal Road.

James appears for the age of 15/20 in the enumeration of the 1830 U.S. Federal Census for Lawrence County, Ms in the home of his parents.

MARRIAGE
#1: In Copiah County James married 14 September 1837 to Mrs. Anna Smith (the widow of Everett Smith) with five children: Lot, Sarah, Amanda, Elizabeth and Issac Smith. Before her marriage to Everett Smith, she was Anna Cagle, daughter of a William Cagle; as by evidence of her first marriage document. James and Anna had five children of their own: Nancy Jane, Malinda, William Randall, Delilah and Martha Ann Pierce.

The family is found on the 1850 Census of Catahoula Parish, Louisiana; with none of the Smith children living in the home. Anna died before 23 February 1853. This Census was taken on 6 November 1850.

Yet, another 1850 US FEDERAL CENSUS exists for this same family dated 15 November in Rapides Parish, Louisiana.

MARRIAGE
#2: James married 23 Feb 1853 to a Mrs. Malinda Cook (widow of David Cook) in Copiah County. Her maiden name was found to be Short. To James and Malinda was born a son, James David Pierce in 1855. Malinda died 10 June 1876 in Copiah County, Ms.

MARRIAGE:
#3 James married in Copiah County, Ms. for a third time on 24 October 1876 to a Mrs. Sarah Rigsdell/Ridgdell (a widow of Hiram Rigsdell) with one surviving child; Francis Marion Rigsdell. Her maiden name was found to be Anderson. (NOTICE various spellings everywhere!)

James Mitchell Pierce, Sarah (his third wife) and her son Francis M. Rigsdell were enumerated on the 1880 U.S. Federal Census for Copiah County. He is not found on any census record after that date.

Sometime before January 1886, the widow, Sarah Anderson Rigsdell Pierce and her son Francis M. Rigsdell arrive in Dew, Limestone County, Texas, where he is shown married to Kizzie Hallmark, daughter of William Hallmark and Martha Furlow.
