NEODESHA NEWSPAPER: James Anderson Dies Here This Morning

James F. Anderson, 85, died this morning at 4:15 in the Wilson County Hospital. He had been seriously ill since March 4th, 1959.

James' service will be held Wednesday, March 19, 1959 at 2:30 p.m. in the William Fawcett Funeral Home of Neodesha, Kansas, with the Rev. Herbert Brockman, officiating.

Burial will be in Neodesha cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home. Casket bearers are William E. Tulle, Marvin Osburn, Roy L. Ford, H.E. Sturgeon, Harry Kuntz and Carl Pittman. Organist is Mrs. W.W. Pfautz and singers are Mrs. C.A. Lockard and Mrs. Paul H. Jones. Songs "When The Roll is Called Up Yonder", "The Old Rugged Cross". Crossing The Bar - Sunset and evening star, And one clear call for me! And may there by no moaning of the Bar When I put out to sea....For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place the cloud may bear near far I hope to see my Pilot face to face, When I have cross the bar. Tennyson.

In memory of James Francis Anderson who was born July 14, 1873 in Hudson, Illinois. He was married to Miss Matilda Florence Vanderhoff in Sycamore Valley, Kansas, on February 24, 1904. He came to Kansas with his parents and settled in Farm Ridge and later at Neodesha. He had lived at 1120 North 4th Street for the past 47 years. Mrs. Anderson preceded him in death June 21, 1952.

He is survived by two sons, Nikola V. Anderson from Harvey, Cook County, Illinois and Orval K. Anderson, Chicago, Lake County, Illinois, one daughter, Mrs. Albertine Root from Highland, Lake County, Indiana, six grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Bertha Sellers of Elk City, Montgomery County, Kansas, three brothers, John Anderson of Sioux Falls, Minnehaha County, South Dakota, Ira Anderson of Saline, Saline County, Kansas, and Elmer Anderson of Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas.

His parents John W. Anderson and Clarissa Misner Anderson preceded him in death and also three brothers. He was a Spanish American War veteran enlisting May 18, 1900 and was honorably discharged June 17, 1903. He was in Company M, 1st Regiment, Infantry, Kansas National Guard. He farmed in his earlier days and was a teamster in the oil fields. His hobby in his retiring years was gardening. He raised many beautiful flowers. Jim had a smile for everyone and had made many friends.
