Noel Phillips, Jr., 68, of Macedonia, IL, died at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2010 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Marion, IL.

Mr. Phillips was born on February 18, 1942 in Benton, IL, the son of Harvey Noel Phillips and Blanche Mary (Tate) Phillips. He married the former Betty Miles on March 14, 1970 and she survives.

Noel was a retired bus mechanic having worked at the Benton High School for 27 years. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran and a member of the Benton American Legion.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Betty Phillips, Macedonia, IL, two brothers and three sisters, Harvey Phillips, Benton, IL, Lola Burchell, Benton, IL, Nora Huffine, Montana, Jim Phillips, Momence, IL, Jean (Bob) Wiseman, Carrier Mills, IL, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Irvin Dale (Linda) Miles, Christopher, IL, Eva Rexrode, Florida, Carol (Bob) Patterson, Tuscola, IL, Barbara (Frank) Rich, Benton, IL, Dean (Beverly) Miles, West Frankfort, IL, Allen (Betty) Miles, Benton, IL, Beverly (Jim) Eldridge, Benton, IL, Nancy (Tom) Sieveking, Marion, IL, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Harvey Noel, Bob, and Charles Phillips, five sisters, Elsie Cockrum, Mary Rone, Judy Hathcoat, Linda Phillips, Neva Phillips.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton, IL. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Rev. Garland Burris officiating. Burial will be in the Phillips Cemetery, Ewing, IL with military rites performed by the Benton American Legion and V.F.W.
