Granddaughter MaryLee's memories of Jalmer for Jalmer's birthday, June 2.

I remember how many times he bought his 'last car'. There was a Kaiser and a Plymouth I remember as a last cars. He usually had a dog---I recall a big white chow and a pekingese.

We loved going to the Boston Store where he sold shoes and we got to look at our feet in that florescent machine. Jalmer also ate bread, butter and salt for breakfast while we got to eat bread, butter and SUGAR!!

He was a man of few words. I remember calling him BEAR teasing him about him trying to always to be so gruff.

Most of my memories are sitting around on the front porch--walking to the corner store and with the neighbors stopping to talk. I love that memory.

Anyway -- Happy Birthday Jalmer!!

Grandson Jerry's Memories of Jalmer

I don't have very many memories of him; primarily just his orchard, chickens and front porch. He worked at AZ Tax Dept in the Capitol building by the time knew him. I remember he was the only one who stayed at home Christmas Eve while every other family member, except him and us, went to Mass. And of course Lemon Drops.

I remember the Kaiser, but mostly this 1956 Plymouth Belvedere, his ultimate last car. First time was at our house, when they drove over (very rare!), and parked on the street. Perhaps this was when it was new, or for 4th of July fireworks. In 1966 this became my first car. had it at U of A - doors, and push-button drive. By that time, the only thing it lacked was shock absorbers ... and it was a real boat. Fed it 25 cent gas from a Richfield station.

Granddaughter Nancy's memories of Jalmer

My favorite memories are of staying over at their house and getting up early to "help" with the irrigation. I had/have the impression that irrigating was something he enjoyed.

Then there was my shooting lesson out in the back 40. It lasted only until Mother discovered us - and it was never repeated.

Then, the candy. He liked candy - and was a good sharer.

And then there were all the Sunday mornings when TeeDee went off to mass and I (who was not allowed to attend mass) stayed with Jalmer who spent Sunday mornings listening to baseball on the radio. I'd been told Jalmer was Lutheran and for many years thought that listening to baseball on the radio was a Lutheran religious observance.

I remember going with TeeDee and Jalmer to the Kaiser-Fraser dealership when they were car shopping. I remember their excitement.
