Charles Dean Collins, 80, was born on March 24, 1929 and went to be with his Lord on March 12, 2010. He was born in Chanute, Kan. to Myrtle and Otis Dean Collins. Charles served 22 years in the USAF as a flight engineer and retired in 1969. He drove a school bus for Fair View School in West Plains, Mo. for 20 years where he also raised beef cattle on his farm. Known for his generous heart and watchful care of those around him, he loved to hunt, fish, read and cut wood. Charles and Wife Alice LaVerne (Ledlow) moved to Fair Grove in 1996 and would have celebrated 59 years of marriage on his birthday later this month. Charles was preceded in death by his mother and father; sisters, Marie, Fena, and Relda; and brothers, Don and Dale. He is survived by his wife, LaVerne; two children, Cindy Frese and husband Don of Fair Grove and Charles Jr. and wife Judy of Leavenworth, Kan. Charles, affectionately known as papa and Ol'pa to his 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. Services will be in Veterans Memorial Cemetery Wednesday March, 17, 2010 at 2:30 p.m.
