Born about 1789, at Borobol in Kildonan Parish, Sutherlandshire, Scotland, Christina Sutherland immigrated about 1815 to Canada West as a Red River Settler, where she married George Bannerman. Not long after, they headed east to Upper Canada, and in 1828 purchased farm land at the "Scotch Settlement" near Bradford, West Gwillimbury Township, Simcoe County

George and Christina Bannerman had a large family, 9 children (4 girls and 5 boys). One fact that is known for sure, is that this couple were great-grandparents of the Honourable JOHN George Bannerman DIEFENBAKER, 13th Prime Minister of Canada
