On June 11, 1950 in the First Christian Church in Ada, Pontotoc County, Oklahoma, Jess married Elizabeth Charlotte Rice who was born December 6, 1916 in Durant, Bryan County, Oklahoma, the daughter of Henry Marvin Rice Sr. (1890-1959) and Leona Ida Cordell (1899-1979).
Jess and Elizabeth had two sons: Henry Rice Handley, born April 9, 1951 and Donald Hall ‘Don’ Handley born February 12, 1972.
Elizabeth died on August 13, 1966 at the age of 49 and was buried in the Masonic Gardens of the Memorial Park Cemetery, in Ada, Oklahoma. She was buried in Ada in the Masonic Gardens Of the Memorial Park Cemetery. Her death was published in the Ada Evening News dated August 14, 1966.
Jess owned the Handley Lumber Company in Ada. He retired at the age of 65 in 1970. After his sons were grown, he lived alone for the rest of his life.
Jess died December 22, 1995 in Ada of ____________. He was buried beside Elizabeth in Ada in the Masonic Gardens of the Memorial Park Cemetery.
