Laura was the only daughter of William Aaron Yeisley and Alice Sovilla Uhler. She was born June 14, 1908 in East Berlin, Adams County, Pennsylvania and died April 10, 1992 in Havertown, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. When Laura graduated from Normal School, she got a job teaching in the town of Tatamy, Pa and taught there for 3 years. She married Ottwill Ira Benson on June 19, 1930 in New Milford. Her father, the Rev. Yeisley was pastor of the Presbyterian Church in New Milford and his father, the Rev Edson Benson, was pastor of the New Milford Baptist Church. They had one daughter Lois Ann born September 4, 1931.
Laura was active in the community including church choir, Sunday school teacher, and Girl Scout Leader. During WW II she was a plane spotter and a street representative for surveys and canvases. She was an artist - painted in oils and water colors, repaired and refinished china. She was an avid gardner of both wild and domesticated flowers.
Laura and Ottwill lived at 53 Waverly Road, Havertown, Pa. a suberb of Philadelphia. Ottwill was a data processing manager at an insurance company in Philadelphia. They purchased a cottage at Upper Lake near New Milford in the 1950's and summered there. The cottage is in the family today.
Laura did all the importent stuff including carrying on the research of her father on the Yeisley family, the Uhler family, and the Benson family histories. Almost all the information in this study resulted from her efforts and from those that she inspired and assisted. The Yeisley Genealogy contained in her book "200 Years of Yeisley Families" is the defining work on the Yeisley family history. She linked over 2000 Yeisleys to Nichlaus Yeisli who arrived in Philadelphia on 28 August 1750.
When Laura died April 10, 1992 in Havertown, she passed the batton on the Yeisley family history to Carl W. Yeisley. Laura's final resting place is in the New Milford Cemetery.
