Death Summons Prominent Enderlin Business Man – Theodore William Peterson
Enderlin lost one of its most influential businessmen and respected citizens at eleven o'clock yesterday when Theo. W. Peterson passed away at his home following an illness of two months duration.
Mr. Peterson was first taken sick last May when he suffered a hemorrhage of the stomach brought on by high blood pressure. He was rushed to a Fargo hospital where a blood transfusion was found necessary. He slowly regained his health and had recovered sufficiently to be brought home two weeks ago. Although still very weak he seemed to be improving. He became suddenly worse Tuesday evening from which he never recovered. A cerebral hemorrhage was given as the cause of his demise.
Theo. W. Peterson was born in Minneiska, Minnesota, October 24, 1871. At the age of 15 years he came to North Dakota and entered the employ of a hardware firm at Larimore. He remained in the employ of this firm for a number of years. In 1898 he was united in marriage to Miss Florence Bateman of Grand Forks. To this union two sons were born, J. Roy and Paul. Shortly after his marriage he went into the hardware and furniture business for himself at Aneta, N.D., and later branched out with a brother in a chain of three stores.
In 1910 he disposed of his business at Aneta and went to live in California. In 1912 he came to Enderlin and purchased the Engle furniture and undertaking business which he still owned. Mr. Peterson had made a success of the business and at the time of his demise had one of the finest stocks of furniture in this part of the state and one of the most complete undertaking establishments
Mr. Peterson was a good and faithful husband and father, steadfast and honest in all his dealings, thus winning the respect of all who knew him. He was always ready and willing to help in time of need. He was an active member of the local Kiwanis club and a member of the Masonic lodge of Enderlin. Mr. Peterson was possessed of a public spirit and was always ready to aid in any movement for the betterment of the community.
Masonic rites in honor of Mr. Peterson will be held in the Masonic temple Friday at one o'clock. All brethren are urged to be present.
Friends who have known Mr. Peterson will assist in his funeral services at 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon in the East St. Olaf Church, Rev. O.J. Lutness, pastor of the church, will officiate at the rites. Burial will be in the Enderlin cemetery.
Pallbearers will be C.G. Bangert, W.J. Loomis, H. Shirley, F.G. Oehlke, W.A. Roehm and J.M. Hanson.
Besides the widow and two sons Mr. Peterson leaves to mourn his demise, two brothers, Walter of Durango, Colorado, and Henry of Pocatello, Idaho.
