Long Illness Fatal to South Evart Woman
Mrs. Laura Elder, 83, buried Friday: Had been ill for five years.
Mrs. Laura Elder died Tuesday, January 16, at the farm home in South Evart. She had been ill for the past five years.
Laura H. [Hapgood] Custer, daughter of Judah and Nancy Custer, was born in Warren, Ohio, January 25, 1862.
May 24, 1879 she was united in marriage to John E. Elder, who preceded her in death February 12, 1927. To them were born eleven children, eight of whom, six daughters and two sons, survive her. Mrs. Lucy Hooker, of Charlevoix, Mrs. Ana Brigham and Mrs. Theresa McLachlan of Evart, Mrs. Etta M. Fish, of Lapeer, Mrs. Letitia Cockerton of Flint, Mrs. Emma Cummins, of Montpelier, Ohio and William and John Elder, both of Evart. Three sisters, Mrs. Mary Riddell of Manitoba, Mrs. Clara McCain of Reed City, Miss Addie Custer of Evart, and one brother, Charles Custer, of Flint. Also, twenty eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services. Rev. G. A. Belknap officiating, were held at the home Friday afternoon, January 19 at one o'clock and from the Community Methodist church, of which she was a member, at 2 o'clock. Interment was made in Forest Hill cemetery. G. W. Corey was the undertaker.
