Joseph was the son of Joseph and Margaret Doolin Marcus. He served as a S1 US Navy during World War II.

Obituary:
Joseph J. Marcus, 79, of 2017 Arapahoe, died at 5:51 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He had been in failing health for the past 10 years.
Born July 1, 1926, in Gary, he had resided in Lafayette for the past 45 years.
He married Voneta F. Arnold on Feb. 10, 1950, in Lubbock, Texas, and she survives.
Mr. Marcus was a veteran, serving with the Navy during World War II.
He worked at Anheuser Busch/Staley from 1960 until his retirement in 1986.
Mr. Marcus was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Shrine Club.
He enjoyed Purdue football and basketball, the Indianapolis Colts and was a fan of Jeff Gordon.
Surviving are three daughters, Susan E. Braaksma (husband: Marty) of Lafayette, Melissa A. Tipton (husband: Rusty) of Frisco, Texas, and Maureen Holt (husband: Dave) of Orlando, Fla.; three sons, Greg Marcus of Scranton, Pa., A. Brent Marcus (wife: Cynthia) of Lafayette and Russell J. Marcus (wife: Sabrina) of Dayton; and a sister, Mary Dibble of Valparaiso.
