In 1930, according to the U.S. Census, Edward lived in Buffalo, NY with his parents and two sisters. He later moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and ultimately settled in O'Fallon, Missouri.
Edward served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, flying 18 missions over Italy. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean War. He retired with the rank of major (O-4) from the U.S. Air Force.
Edward died Dec 29, 1998 at age 75. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, John Arnold Shepherd. He was survived by his wife, five daughters and one son.
