Rev. John Paden Dysart is the son of Cornelius Dysart + Mary Elizabeth (Heywood) Dysart. He first married Bertha Fox. Bertha and their twin sons died following the twins' birth in 1913, in South Africa. Rev. John Paden Dysart and his wife were missionaries in South Africa. His father had just died prior to his leaving for the mission field.

After Bertha's death, he married Mathilde Thorson. He continued his missionary work in Africa, where their son, Dr. Donald N Dysart was born in 1923.
